Ballon d’Or/Golden Ball 2018 – Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo (Week #12)

A very quiet week for Lionel Messi as football is on international duty.  Argentina played Italy and won by the score of 2-0, but la Pulga did not feature in this match, being rested by manager Jorge Sampaoli.

Cristiano Ronaldo played for Portugal vs. Egypt and Mohamed Salah and both players scored.  Ronaldo scored 2 goals in additional time to lead his country to a 2-1 win vs. the Pharaohs.

Messi and Ronaldo will be on intentional duty again next week as Argentina plays Spain this coming Tuesday and Portugal will face off against the Netherlands on Monday.

Ballon d’Or/Golden Ball 2018 – Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo (Week #11)

Lionel played two games this week.  First, in the UEFA Champions League where he collected two goals and one assist in a 3-0 win over Chelsea FC in the return leg of the round of 16, allowing his club to qualify for the next round where they will face AS Roma. In addition, in Liga Santander, FC Barcelona received Athletic Bilbao this Sunday and La Pulga scored a goal in a vital 2-0 victory for his team.

Cristiano Ronaldo played one game this week, a Liga Santander match against Girona where the Portuguese international scored 4 goals and added an assist in a 6-3 win against Girona.

Ballon d’Or/Golden Ball 2018 – Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo (Week #10)

A rather quiet week for Lionel Messi who had only one game to play, but who forfeited to be at the side of his wife who gave birth to their third child.  Despite the absence of Argentinian genius, FC Barcelona won 2-0 against the worst– and soon to be relegated – team of La Liga Santander, at Malaga on Saturday.  Quietly, the Catalans are headed into a 25th title Spanish Championship title.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been busier and more productive this week.  The shock tie against Paris Saint-Germain FC allowed him to score a vital away goal for his club and earned Real Madrid CF a 2-1 victory to punch their ticket for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.  Moreover, in La Liga Santander, CR7 scored the two goals of his team in a 2-1 win at Eibar, on Saturday as well.

Ballon d’Or/Golden Ball 2018 – Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo (Week #9)

Lionel Messi played two Liga games this week.  In midweek, la Pulga curled another beautiful free kick, away at Las Palmas, but FC Barcelona could not do better than 1-1.  This Sunday, it was a clash between the two best Spanish teams of the moment, at the Camp Nou, the Blaugranas and Atlético de Madrid.  The Catalans came out victorious with a 1-0 win thanks to superb free kick from Lionel Messi.  FC Barcelona is ahead of Atlético by eight points in La Liga and is still unbeaten this season (21 wins, 6 ties after 27 games and has not been beaten in 34 games dating back from last season).

Cristiano Ronaldo did not take part in the defeat of his club against Espanyol in Barcelona, 1-0, but played against Getafe on Saturday, at home, and scored two goals for los Merengues in a 3-1 victory.

Ballon d’Or/Golden Ball 2018 – Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo (Week #8)

Une semaine de football chargée pour les deux joueurs favoris pour le Ballon d’Or 2018.

Lionel Messi a goûté à la Ligue des Champions la semaine dernière face à Chelsea FC, à Stamford Bridge, le brillant petit lutin a marqué le seul but de son club dans un match nhl de 1-1. Samedi, Le FC Barcelone a affronté Girona, dans un derby local, ou ils l’ont emporté par la marque de 6-1 avec deux buts et une passe décisive de Lionel Messi qui continue de régner dans la Liga Santander.  Luis Suarez fut la grande vedette de ce match avec trois buts et deux passes décisives.

De son côté, Cristiano Ronaldo n’a joué qu’une seule partie cette semaine, un match de championnat contre le Deportivo Alavés il a marqué deux buts.  Plus tôt dans la semaine, le Real Madrid avait affronté Leganes, à l’extérieur, et a remporté le match 3-1, mais CR7 avait été laissé de côté pour ce match.

Ballon d’Or/Golden Ball 2018 – Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo (Week #7)

Lionel Messi played just one game this week, a Liga game against Eibar, and managed to collect an assist in a 2-0 victory for FC Barcelona.

In contrast, Cristiano Ronaldo was busier with two games.  The first involving a Champions’ League tie against Paris Saint-Germain FC at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the Portuguese international scoring two goals for Los Merengues.  The second game, a Liga match, at Real Betis and Real Madrid CF collecting the three points with a 5-2 victory and CR7 with one goal.

FC Barcelona is still on top of the Liga, 17 points ahead of their arch-rivals.

Ligue des Champions/Champions’ League – Huitième de finale aller

D’excellents matchs attendent les partisans de football au cours des prochaines semaines. Du Real Madrid contre le Paris Saint-Germain, de la Juventus FC face à Tottenham Hotspurs et sans parler du FC Barcelone contre Chelsea FC.

De belles parties en perspectives, et celui qui retient le plus l’attention est évidemment le duel entre les deux capitales nationales de l’Espagne et de la France. Deux clubs richissimes en euros comptant des joueurs vedettes à la tonne tels que Cristiano Ronaldo et Neymar Jr.

Le Real Madrid, double champion d’Europe en titre, connait une saison difficile à tous les points de vue alors que le Paris Saint-Germain est dominant aussi bien au niveau national qu’européen. De plus, avec l’ajout de Neymar Jr. et Kylian Mbappé Lottin, il y a un sentiment comme quoi le club de la capitale française peut (enfin) passer le cap des quarts de finale de la compétition et même remporter le trophée. Nous sommes encore loin de ce scénario, mais une chose semble certaine, les Parisiens voudront éviter à tout prix ce qui est arrivée il y a un an contre le FC Barcelone et la fameuse « remuntada » du 6-1 au Camp Nou. Prédiction?

Le Paris Saint-Germain passe au prochain tour.

Le FC Barcelone, encore invaincu cette saison en Liga, devra se méfier de Chelsea qui généralement lui donner du fil à retordre en Ligue des Champions (2000, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2012). Je ne parlerai pas de bête noire, mais c’est toujours difficile pour les Blaugranas de s’imposer contre cette équipe. Cependant, vu la forme actuelle inquiétante des hommes d’Antonio Conte, je ne vois pas le club londonien battre la machine catalane.

Victoire du Barça.

Pour le reste, ce seront des matchs intéressants, mais avec peu de surprises. Manchester United FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester City FC du côté anglais devraient passer. Le Bayern de Munich également chez les Allemands. Je verrai bien Tottenham Hotspurs causer la surprise contre une Juventus expérimentée, mais qui commence à se faire « vieux ». Finalement, dans un match difficile à prédire, je prévois une victoire de l’AS Roma contre le FC Shakhtar Donetsk.
